Upgrading To WordPress 2.7.1

When you log in to your WordPress admin area today at the top of the page you’ll see:

WordPress 2.7.1 is available! Please Update Now

Easy enough to deal with you’d think.

Just click the Please Update Now link and then the Upgrade Automatically button.

Or so you’d think.

I tried – saw it was unpacking.

Man, that thing must have been on a long holiday the amount of unpacking that seemed to be going on!

And then I strated to wonder. It clearly wasn’t doing anything.

After some deep thinking – yes I can do that sometimes – I realised that the WP Automatic Upgrade plugin I have installed and still activated must be causing a conflict.

Deactivating the old plugin did the trick and the WordPress 2.7 automatic upgrade that’s part of WordPress now did it’s job.

This time it was clearly just an overnight visit!

I’m a shy bit behind and only at “Working With WordPress” videos but I’ll make a side note on this. I see an up-coming video, it looks like you may cover some of this in Wizzer’s Plugins Volume #2 32.51 MB
Man o Man there is a boat load of info. to get after at Blogging Beginners~Yikes!

I think in those videos I talk about using the WP Automatic Upgrade. The previous version of WordPress (the latest when I recorded the videos) didn’t have the automatic upgrade so a plugin was required.

So, you can skip the bit about Automatic Upgrade plugin when watching those videos.

There, the boat load got a little lighter! :)

And if you haven’t added the Automatic Upgrade plugin to your site yet. DON’T.

The developers have stopped supporting it since it is built into WordPress now and as Wizzer pointed out it will cause a conflict and neither will work. It will also affect the automatic plugin installation.

But I really need to talk to Wizzer about reading my blog because I posted this way back on 12 Dec 2008

There’s no ice cream at Randy’s site…….. It’s hard to keep the concentration 100% with no snacks.

I knew there had to be a perfectly sound reason!!

  6. Randy The Hermit | February 12, 2009 at 11:36 am #

Wizzer is the social director and there by responsible for all snacks on all sites through out the Internet!

If there are no snacks on the How To Blog Site we must therefore blame Wizzer :)

I on the other hand provide the vegetables, you know the stuff that you might not like but is good for you.

    • Wizzer | February 12, 2009 at 2:20 pm #

      What great analogy – vegetables & SEO // ice-cream & socialising!!!

My van got stuck in the snow and I couldn’t make my usually deliveries ;)

  7. Randy The Hermit | February 12, 2009 at 11:44 am #

And somebody has to make sure you have your vegetables. Can’t always be popcorn and ice cream :)

  8. Denise | February 12, 2009 at 4:44 pm #

    Popcorn is a vegetable.

And the van in snow???? I hope you had a small baggie to make ice cream with.

I will try to work through all posts, even without snacks…..
