Hi - good to see you again.
Don't forget - leave a message on the Contact Wizzer page if I can help with anything
Lately I’ve been hacked off with far too many people – and then I met Joan Hughes.
Well, actually I haven’t met her in the traditional sense – she got in touch with me and we exchanged a few emails.
But I’m jumping the gun.
I said I’ve been getting hacked off with people. As some of you may know my full time “day job” is a business that I run as a financial adviser. Over the past few months my already low opinion of the quality of staff working for banks, insurance companies and investment companies has reached an all time low. It wasn’t hard to reach those depths from where they started but given the perilous state of the economy and those organisations you’d expect them to be going out of their way to provide an outstanding service.
Nothing of the sort. They’ve become less helpful to the point of rudeness. They lie, they cheat and they tell you anything to get you off of the phone!
So, my faith in humanity (present company excepted, of course) has taken a beating.
And then along came Joan Hughes.
If you have a website with a link that doesn’t work would you expect the person who clicked on it to let you know? I wouldn’t. It’s just one of those things.
The internet is littered with broken links. Never mind – let’s move on.
But not Joan. She took the trouble to email me to let me know not one but several links were broken on one of my sites. But not only did she tell me that she also prepared a list of the links that didn’t work AND one where the page has obviously been removed to be replaced by a hosting company “holding” page.
Wow. That’s fantastic. I could have left those links broken forever (OK, I know I should regularly check these things).
What actually happened was I’d transferred the domain to another hosting company and one of the folders didn’t upload properly. And, Mr Do What I Say not What I Do hadn’t bothered to check it was all working OK afterwards.
So my faith in human nature has been restored today and by somebody who could be the other side of the world for all I know and somebody I’ve never met to boot!
A quick visit to Joan Hughes Internet Marketing Tips and a social bookmarking of some sort would be much appreciated to help me thank Joan.
Thanks again Joan.

Gee Mark, you made me cry by sending me to Joans site. I watched born to win and everyone has to view this! Inspirational, upbeat and grounding all at the same time.
I always appreciate it when someone helps my site out by pointing out a typo or flaw. Thanks Joan. And thanks Mark for all the help and support you have given me in the last year and more particularly in the last month or so with Blogging Beginners!

That’s all I need on a Friday – making people cry
Thanks for your kind words – you know I like to help.
Hi Mark,
I came to check out your blog theme after receiving your email about possibly changing themes and I was compelled to read your latest post about Joan. I completely agree with you, I’m an insurance agent trying to shift over to being a full-time IM’r and I know exactly what you mean about people in the financial services industry. I worked in financial services from 2003-2006 and it was pretty frustrating to see some of what I was exposed to.
I’ll be happy to check out Joan’s site and connect via social bookmarking. Thanks for all the help you’ve given me so far and I look forward to getting to know you better as we communicate back and forth. I’m a twitter nut too, it’s such a neat way to stay in touch.
Have a blessed day,
Kevin
Kevin’s last blog post..How are you treating your customers?
You have my deepest sympathy!! It got to the point of no return for me a while back – like you I’m trying to make the switch full time. Problem right now is needing the income from Financial Services – until I can replace that it’s one huge balancing act. At least I work for myself – from home – so I control my own time.
Thanks for taking the time to comment Kevin
Never mind the banking, insurance, financial industries – man you should try the phone companies! Enough to make you work 36 hrs a day to try to get your own business off and running!
It is a difficult time to transition to a new career and balancing is difficult during the whole process. My goals this year are to do just that, and thanks to the Blogging Beginners program it will come to pass. Now I am heading over to Joan’s place….thanks Mark.

Oh well – at least there are no problems with Vista!!!
And there was me thinking it was a UK thing! Seems the problems of inefficiency and worse – apathy – are worldwide and not industry specific.
I don’t feel much better for that though! Thanks for visiting Joan’s blog.
