Blog Hosting
Asked “what is the best blog hosting company” I can honestly answer “I don’t know”.
I’ve tried and use many and if you look around the internet you’ll see all sorts of recommendations made – but are they just because they are affiliate links?
Having tried 6 or 7 myself there are several I wouldn’t use again – not because of any problems with their hosting but the admin side of their operation is just too difficult to understand. For example, a credit card I was using expired and I wanted to change the details.
Could I find a way to login? Absolutely not.
Then I got so frustrated I decided to cancel the account. Could I find out how to do that? You know the answer!
So if I was pressed for an answer to which is the best blog hosting company I would answer with a short list of things you should ensure your chosen host provides:
1) Easy to navigate admin area
2) cPanel
3) Easy upgrade options
4) Great help desk / customer service
OK, I know you want to know my recommendation.
Based on my experience over 3 years I have to say I’ve been totally happy on all the above issues with HostGator.
Are they the best? Probably not, but since I’ve had no problems with them I can’t see any point in seeking out somebody else – until something goes wrong that they don’t fix!
By the way, if you are thinking of starting several sites you should consider a “resellers” account. You don’t actually use it to resell to anybody but you do get the capability of adding unlimited domains to the account at no extra cost.
So with Hostgator a basic hosting package for one site / blog would cost around $5 per month but for unlimited sites a resellers package would be around $25 per month.
